bland and smug green things

a convention of
bland and smug green things is a
brief summer facade

yes there are ledges

yes there are ledges
where muted colors gather
in serenity

coming to the end

coming to the end
in a rush of pageantry
and sunblown revolt

Fools before God

. . . and save they shall cast these things away, and consider themselves fools before God, and come down in the depths of humility, he will not open unto them. 2 Nephi. 9:42

A fool before the Lord am I; but scant my wit and sense.
Without His constant watch care I am left without defense.
His openness and mercy will I humbly seek today
by tallying my follies and then casting them away!

the moon's impression

the moon's impression
on the darkening blue sky
is a cricket chirp

with richer awe

far beyond the sky
I know is another sky
filled with richer awe

How to lose friends and alienate people -- Have a great day -- Nebraska lawmakers

In the span of three days, President Trump appears to have lost or to be dangerously close to losing the loyalty of three people he used to be able to count on pretty much unconditionally.   WaPo

A sitting president who loses friends along the way
is common as a hockey player getting in a fray.
When you're on a throne you tend to kick all those below
who put you there with falsehoods and so much illicit dough.
Gratitude is something that a president regrets
giving out to anyone, including White House pets.

PepsiCo wants you to write notes of love and encouragement to your kids on the junk food you pack in their lunch box. @maloneyfiles
Your kids my grow as fat as sin
but leave them notes to make them grin
on bags of chips and Moon Pies too,
as diabetes turns them blue.

As the University of Nebraska makes strides for diversity, Nebraska State senator Steve Erdman sparked debate when he suggested the addition of a diversity director would put white men at a disadvantage by favoring minorities.  WaPo

There is no end to lunacy
with lawmakers' hyperbole
as grappling with reality
they show the wits of a sand flea.

Poke’s popularity surges even as arguments about authenticity heat up

I'm glad that the national food
of my land has yet to be screwed.
It's lefse, you see,
and there's nobody
who wants to have it barbecued.

How Donald Trump turned Omarosa’s ‘Unhinged’ tell-all into a bestseller

Omarosa should thank Donald Trump for her success. Even before the book was officially released on Aug. 14, the president started firing off angry tweets, gassing up public interest far beyond anything the publisher or the author could have managed by themselves.  WaPo

A writer who learns to inspire
the President's twittering ire
will have a bestseller,
with earnings quite stellar --
despite prose as tangled as brier.

my foolish work

to watch the rainbow
keep blessing the heavens high
is my foolish work
