There have been melancholy days
when in the mirror I had to gaze
with my wounded heart ablaze --
and say "Thou art the man."
When with the Lord I did not walk;
like David when he got the shock
who Nathan's stern rebuke did mock --
and say "Thou art the man."
My pride did push me to behave
in ways that lured me to the grave
of abandon, there to rave --
and say "Thou art the man."
But then I turned to face the light
and with great help made bad things right,
so to the Savior say I might --
"Thou art the MAN."
