Goodbye, George Bailey: Decline of Rural Lending Crimps Small-Town Business
They shuttered my bank just today.
It must have got right in the way
Of some darn box store --
The rural decor
Around here sends money astray.
In Maine snow is everywhere. But not snowplow drivers.
The shortage of labor in Maine
Is not very hard to explain:
A touristy spot
Where locals are not
Too willing to court a chilblain.
China Looks Back on the Mao Era Through Rose-Colored Glasses
The people of China think Mao
Was some kind of wise sacred cow.
A kindly old bloke --
Though millions did croak
Because there was not enough chow. Cash Might Be King, but They Don’t Care
This “freedom from carrying cash”
That Visa has started is brash.
A five dollar bill
Is treated like swill --
Use plastic or you’re trailer trash!
