The Trump administration is ending a humanitarian program that has allowed some 59,000 Haitians to live and work in the United States since an earthquake ravaged their country in 2010, Homeland Security officials said on Monday.
From the NYTimes.
The cause humanitarian, whatever it may be,
Is wearing out its welcome in the city of D.C.
Bleak hearts and budget limits send the refugees away
To devastated homelands where the rats and famine play.
Tis altogether meet that such decrees must now abide
Just as we begin to celebrate the Christmas tide.
For all the homeless people, all the landless in despair,
Remind us of a fam’ly that to Egypt did repair --
With death threats close behind them, they did take their little child
Off across the desert, forcing them to be exiled.
No government gave heed to their predicament abroad --
Even though they nourished one we call the Son of God . . .
